Meet Rune & Sondre – The People Behind Arctic Moments Tours

Two generations. One shared passion for the Arctic.

Some people travel to the Arctic to discover its extraordinary landscapes. Others are fortunate enough to call it home.

For us, the mountains, fjords and wilderness surrounding Narvik have always been part of our lives.

We are Rune and Sondre Dahl, father and son, born and raised in Narvik in Northern Norway. Together, we're part of the team behind Arctic Moments Tours, a locally owned adventure company dedicated to sharing the places, experiences and landscapes we love with visitors from around the world.

For us, Arctic Moments Tours is about more than guiding people from one beautiful location to another.

It's about sharing our home, our knowledge and our passion for the Arctic.

Rune – More Than 30 Years Behind the Camera

For over three decades, Rune has worked professionally as a photographer and filmmaker, travelling throughout Northern Norway, the Lofoten Islands, Swedish Lapland and the wider Arctic region.

Since establishing his photography business in 1993, he has spent countless days and nights exploring the landscapes of the north.

From winter storms along the coast to the magical light of the midnight sun, from remote mountain valleys to spectacular Northern Lights displays, photography has taken him to extraordinary places.

Over the years, his work has included commercial photography, documentary filmmaking, outdoor adventures, travel productions and several photographic books celebrating the landscapes of the Arctic.

But after more than 30 years behind the camera, one thing remains unchanged: the excitement of discovering beautiful light, extraordinary scenery and those special moments that make the Arctic unique.

"After all these years, I still get excited when the light suddenly changes over the mountains, or when the Northern Lights begin dancing across the sky. Those moments never become ordinary."

And sharing those experiences with others has become an increasingly important part of the journey.

Sondre – A New Generation of Arctic Adventures

Growing up in Narvik, surrounded by mountains, fjords and spectacular wilderness, Sondre developed his own connection to the outdoors.

With a background in filmmaking and outdoor experiences, he brings a new generation's perspective to Arctic Moments Tours.

Today, Sondre plays a central role in the company's daily operations, working as a guide and helping develop the experiences we offer our guests.

He combines local knowledge with a passion for adventure, photography and creating memorable experiences.

For Sondre, guiding is about much more than showing visitors beautiful places.

It's about making people feel welcome, sharing stories and helping them discover the Arctic in a personal and authentic way.

Together, we bring different experiences and perspectives to the company, but we share the same values and enthusiasm for the region.

Why We Started Arctic Moments Tours

After decades of travelling, photographing and filming throughout the Arctic, one thing became increasingly clear.

We wanted to share more of these experiences directly with people visiting our region.

We know places that rarely appear in travel guides. Quiet viewpoints, beautiful fjords, mountain roads and locations where the light can transform an ordinary landscape into something extraordinary.

We also know how quickly conditions can change in the Arctic, and how important local knowledge can be when searching for the Northern Lights or planning an adventure in the mountains.

The idea behind Arctic Moments Tours was to bring this experience together and create something personal.

Not mass tourism. Not crowded buses. But small groups, experienced local guides and authentic adventures.

We wanted our guests to feel like they were exploring the Arctic with someone who genuinely knows and loves the region.

And that's still the philosophy behind everything we do.

Our Playground Has No Borders

One of the things that makes Narvik so special is its location.

To the west, we have spectacular Norwegian fjords, dramatic coastal mountains and beautiful Arctic landscapes.

To the east, just across the Swedish border, lies the extraordinary wilderness of Swedish Lapland.

Places such as Riksgränsen, Björkliden and Abisko have long been part of our natural playground.

For us, the border between Norway and Sweden doesn't divide the experience. It connects two remarkable Arctic landscapes.

This gives us incredible flexibility when planning our tours.

On one day, we may explore the beautiful fjords around Skjomen or Efjord. On another, we may travel across the mountains towards Abisko, or continue all the way to the famous ICEHOTEL in Jukkasjärvi.

And when we're searching for the Northern Lights, we follow the conditions rather than a fixed route.

From the fjords of Northern Norway to the mountains of Swedish Lapland – this entire region is our home territory.

Photography Is Part of Our DNA

Photography has always been a central part of our lives, and it's one of the things that makes Arctic Moments Tours different.

We don't simply take guests to beautiful locations.

We understand light, landscapes, composition and the importance of being in the right place at the right moment.

Sometimes that means stopping beside a quiet fjord because the afternoon light is particularly beautiful.

Sometimes it means changing our Northern Lights route because the clouds are moving in a different direction.

And sometimes it means taking a little extra time to help a guest capture a photograph they'll treasure for years.

On our Northern Lights tours, professional photographs are included, allowing guests to enjoy the experience while we help preserve the memories.

For us, photography isn't an extra service.

It's part of who we are.

We believe that the best experiences happen when there's time to enjoy them.

That's why we focus on small groups and private adventures.

We want our guests to have time to ask questions, take photographs, enjoy the scenery and experience the Arctic without feeling rushed.

Our tours are designed to be flexible, allowing us to adapt to changing weather, light conditions and the interests of the people travelling with us.

Whether we're chasing the Northern Lights, exploring a remote fjord or discovering Swedish Lapland, we always aim to create a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.

And while we love showing visitors the famous highlights of our region, we're equally passionate about sharing the lesser-known places that make Northern Norway so special.

Today, Arctic Moments Tours is based at Adventure Hub Narvik, located at Dronningensgate 51 in the heart of the city.

This is more than just our office.

It's a place where visitors can meet local guides, discover exciting experiences and learn more about the extraordinary region surrounding Narvik.

Together with our partners, we offer a wide variety of adventures.

RIB Narvik provides exciting experiences on the spectacular Ofotfjord.

Gálav Skiguides specialises in guided skiing and mountain adventures.

Your Horizon creates tailor-made Arctic journeys, combining activities and travel arrangements into complete experiences.

And through Arctic Moments Tours, we offer Northern Lights hunting, fjord experiences, Swedish Lapland excursions, ICEHOTEL adventures and private guided tours.

Adventure Hub Narvik brings together people who share a genuine passion for the Arctic and for creating memorable experiences.

It's also where many of our adventures begin.

It's not always the spectacular scenery.

Sometimes it's seeing the expression on someone's face when they experience the Northern Lights for the first time.

Sometimes it's watching guests fall silent as they look across a beautiful fjord surrounded by snow-covered mountains.

Or hearing someone say that their day with us was one of the highlights of their holiday.

Those moments remind us why we love what we do.

It's a feeling, an atmosphere and an experience that stays with you long after you've returned home.
